What I would consider doing is putting the extra money into some outside security around your house. You can up motion sensor lights that will protect the outside of your house. The majority of break ins happen right through your front door. Thieves will actually kick in your front door. You have made a good decision in getting a security system. That will deter a lot of would be thieves. And yes, you will always get someone trying to tell you that it doesn’t but the statistics are out there that it prevents break ins. Two motion sensors are pretty good. You can cover quite an area with that.

Now, if you are feeling brave, you can try programming the security system. ADT doesn’t give out manuals for their system, but their systems come from a particular company and that company puts out manuals for some of theirs. Here is one such manual:

Follow some general tips on securing your property:

and you will be fine. Let’s talk briefly about what security systems are to do. They are to alert you mainly that there is a problem and secondly to prevent someone from hurting you while you are in the house. Now here is one option I would consider, buying your own alarm window sensors and not hooking them into the alarm system. What good is that you might say? Well, if you are at home one of them will go off and perhaps scare away the burglar. Likewise if you are out, it would scare them away. And probably for that $99 dollars you can buy many window sensors. Check out this one on Amazon:

Only $6 dollars. What I might spend that $99 on is something that ADT has called a panic button remote. It’s a small device that goes on your keychain. You may have gotten one as part of your package. Then, let’s walk through this scenario. One of your window alarms goes off, you press your panic button and then your ADT alarm goes off. You just saved a lot of money and essentially accomplished the same thing.
